Operations and Maintenance

Road maintenance service request

Tall weeds along the roadway obscure oncoming traffic. Potholes wreak havoc on your car. Snow and freezing rain pose traffic hazards. Unsightly litter accumulates by the road’s edge. An aging bridge needs reinforcing. Motorists travel at unsafe speeds on rural roads.

These are just a few of the issues tackled by Operations and Maintenance, which provides many nuts-and-bolts services to ensure that county infrastructure is in good working order and conditions are safe for county residents. The division is comprised of six separate programs:

Road Operations

  • Maintenance of the county's right-of-way and drainage systems
  • Shoulder maintenance
  • Roadway maintenance
  • Drainage maintenance
  • Bridge maintenance
  • Traffic control
  • Snow and ice control
  • Street cleaning
  • Vegetation maintenance
  • Litter control.

Parks & Campus Maintenance

  • Maintains county parks and open spaces
  • Maintains grounds surrounding the downtown county buildings.
  • Mowing, turf maintenance, planting, chemical applications, and irrigation.

Safety Program

  • Coordinates all safety training for Operations Division employees.

Road Enforcement Deputies

•Provide services that ensure public safety and help maintain road pavement standards. These include:
• Commercial vehicle enforcement
• Traffic control
• Speed enforcement
• Other related activities.

Equipment Services

  • Management and maintenance of the county's fleet of vehicles and equipment and six inventory stores:
  • Equipment parts
  • Road crew supplies
  • Fuel
  • Road rock
  • Road oil
  • Traffic control devices.

Wastewater Treatment Plant

Charged with the operation and maintenance of the county's Salmon Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, pump station, and regional interceptor lines.
