As Clark County's population continues to grow, the wear and tear on our roads also increases. The Clark County Public Works’ Road Maintenance Division is in charge of maintaining approximately 2,446 lane miles of roadway in unincorporated Clark County.
Slurry sealing is a key part of Clark County’s preventive maintenance program to maximize the service life of our neighborhood roads. It is used in cities and counties across the country as one of the most cost-effective methods of pavement preservation.
What is a Slurry Seal?
The slurry seal is a mixture of fine aggregate and emulsified asphalt that is mixed together and then applied to residential roadway surfaces. Part of preventive maintenance, the slurry seal extends the life of existing asphalt, while sealing it from the harmful effects of water penetration and sun. The slurry seal provides a new wearing surface, and is a cost effective treatment.

Slurry seals typically last from three to seven years.

Slurry seals are typically applied during periods of warm, sunny weather to accelerate the curing of the product.
NOTE: The application process requires a one day road closure.
Why Slurry Seal?
Each year, Clark County evaluates residential roadways to determine the best candidates for the slurry seal application. By undertaking a program of planned pavement maintenance, considerable savings in rehabilitation costs may be achieved. The application of the slurry seal will significantly extend the life of existing residential roadways by protecting the under-surface from damage caused by water-seepage. Thus, our residential roadways will remain sound, usable, and safe. Extensive downtime needed to repair deep cracks and potholes will be reduced or eliminated.
Why not our street?
Based on current funding levels, Clark County can resurface approximately 25 miles of residential roadways each year. Unfortunately, the need for surface treatment is greater than can be met by available funds. However, since the roadway system is evaluated annually, please watch for your roadway to appear on future resurfacing project lists.
Funding for this Project
100% of the funding for the slurry seal project comes out of the county road fund.
