Vancouver, WA – A logjam on the East Fork of the Lewis River has prompted Clark County to close its boat launch at Lewisville Regional Park.

The logjam is downstream from where the river splits around a small island at Daybreak Regional Park. The northern channel is completely blocked by a logjam while the southern channel is 95 percent blocked.

A boat got pinned against the logjam in the southern channel on Sunday and flipped over. No one was hurt, but the accident prompted the county to close the Lewisville boat launch to reduce the likelihood of similar accidents.

Clark County is working with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to get the logjam cleared in the southern channel and will reopen the Lewisville launch as soon as the hazard has been cleared.

“This is a matter of public safety,” said Bill Bjerke, Parks Maintenance Supervisor for Clark County. “We understand that a lot of boaters use the Lewisville launch, but we always will err on the side of caution.”

The Daybreak boat launch, just west of the Daybreak Bridge, remains open.
