County to close section of NW 179th Street because of landslide

Vancouver, WA – Clark County is closing a 650-foot section of Northwest 179th Street because of a landslide that threatens to undermine the north side of the road.
The slide overlooks Whipple Creek about 1,200 feet west of Northwest 41st Avenue.
Access remains open to all homes in the area. Drivers can detour south onto Northwest 169th Street by using Northwest 41st and 51st avenues. The county is putting up temporary signs for the detour.
Almost 900 vehicles a day use this section of Northwest 179th Street, according to 2012 traffic counts.
The section of Northwest 179th Street will remain closed until further notice. County officials will study whether the road could be safe for a single lane of traffic, with either temporary traffic signals or stop signs allowing vehicles to alternately use the single lane.
County officials also will consider how to shore up the bank so the road can reopen to two-way traffic following an interim or long-term repair. The schedule will depend on weather and environmental considerations with the creek.
