Waste Connections/Learning Tree

Waste Connections has partnered with Reading Tree to help support literacy by reusing unwanted books. Bins for used books have recently been placed at all three of the local transfer stations.  Now, when a you visit one of the transfer stations listed below, you can also donate books. Each transfer station has an blue bin for recycling used books (CDs and DVDs are also accpeted). Depending on quality, the books will be reused or recycled, instead of being sent to a landfill.

Some statistics:

  • 61% of low income families have no children’s books in the home
  • Children who are read to and have access to books are better prepared for kindergarten
  • Since 2008 Reading Tree delivered over 2,500,000 quality children’s books into the hands of book-starved children throughout North America

In addition, many other materials can also be droped off for recycling when visiting the transfer stations.
