Saving Money
Recycling and salvaging construction materials can save you money by reducing disposal costs.
SALVAGING: Materials such as hardwood flooring, cabinets, lighting fixtures, wooden doors and windows can often be donated to organizations in this area for reuse in construction and remodel projects. Please remember to call before delivering materials to make sure they are acceptable and to confirm business hours. Receipts for tax deductions can often be obtained when you donate to a non-profit.

DECONSTRUCTION: This means systematically taking apart a building to salvage materials for reuse. The goal is to reuse our natural resources rather than sending them to the landfill. This can be done before construction of a new building begins and may be tax deductible if performed by a licensed and trained non-profit group.
Deconstruction can be dangerous and should only be done by trained, insured and licensed contractors who specialize in this process. Speak with several firms before hiring to make certain they are properly qualified. Here are several firms that have been used in the Clark County area:

CONSTRUCTION RECYCLING AND WASTE. There are methods of managing your building or remodel project to minimize the amount of waste and recycling materials.
- Make a list of the materials you are likely to have in your waste stream as your project progresses. Determine which of these can be recycled and which will be waste.
- Consider your project site and determine how you will place recycling and waste containers. Your recycler and waste hauler can often help with placement.
- Contact a recycler and waste hauler permitted to serve your location to make arrangements for service. Be sure to ask for pricing, accepted materials, and information on available containers.
- If you are hauling your project’s garbage or recycling yourself, be sure to check with the recyclers and transfer stations for specific information on acceptable materials, costs and hours.

TIPS:
Sorting your recyclable materials as they accumulate will reduce costs, keep your project site clean and increase the success of your efforts.
Place containers in an area where misuse or contamination with garbage is not likely to happen. Even a small amount of garbage in a load of recycling will ruin the load and increase your costs.
Educate all contractors, sub-contractors, laborers and site visitors regarding where to place each recyclable material and which container is for garbage only.
