Vancouver, WA – A statement Wednesday from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said Major Crimes detectives have completed processing the scene of Tuesday’s shooting at Clark County’s Center for Community Health, 1601 E. 4th Plain Blvd., and the facility has been returned to normal operations. The investigation is on-going.

At about 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, a suspect the Sheriff’s Office identified as Deborah Lennon entered the Center for Community Health, and contacted Allen Bricker in his Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) office on the fourth floor. The statement said Lennon then produced a handgun and shot Bricker twice in the chest.

Another VA employee, Neil Burkhardt of Portland, intervened, wrestling the gun from Lennon, according to the statement. Responding officers took Lennon into custody. In the scuffle, Lennon sustained injuries to her face and chest and Burkhardt sustained injuries to his right hand.

Bricker and Lennon were transported individually to an area hospital. The Sheriff’s Office statement Wednesday said the extent of Bricker’s injuries and his prognosis were unknown, but that Bricker's wounds are considered serious. Lennon's injuries are not thought to be life threatening. She is held under law enforcement guard.
Lennon is a former VA employee, having worked at of the Center for Community Health, the statement said. The VA rents space in the center.

Burkhardt, a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps, works at the VA as executive assistant to the department director. He requests that interested members of the media call VA Public Affairs Officer Meagan Crowley to arrange an interview. Her number is (360) 619-5934.
