The Identification Unit contains AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) which has been utilized by the Sheriff's Office since 1988. The system is operated only by state trained and certified staff. They search approximately 400 fingerprint cards per month through the Washington State Patrol database, and under 100 searches outside the state.
The ID unit currently processes the print cards of approximately 2500 subjects per month. There is future potential for linking directly to WSP with booking information and fingerprints, and receiving "real-time" responses from the state on subjects using false names or identification.
The ID unit creates photo montages (photo "lineups") for officers whenever needed utilizing digital photo images, photo prints or driver's license photos.
The ID unit is staffed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
