Clark County has been and still is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Washington. As it grows, so does the need for essential services. The county will eventually need to expand its buildings on the downtown Vancouver campus. The need will be especially acute for law and justice facilities, which are already overextended.
On July 10 the Board of Clark County Commissioners awarded a contract to Carter Goble Associates, Inc., a consulting firm from Columbia, S.C., to begin planning the next phase of the county’s downtown campus development. CGA is a nationwide firm with a strong reputation and deep experience in planning justice facilities.
The consultants will prepare a detailed study of future space requirements, evaluate the best uses of existing downtown facilities, and determine what new facilities are needed to handle future demand for services through 2027. They will recommend the most efficient and affordable way to keep offenders in jail, ensure public safety and provide space to house the Prosecutor’s Office, Clerk’s Office, law library, and related law and justice functions.
As part of the study, key county staff members will be interviewed and written comments will be invited from the public. Questions and written comments about the downtown campus plan may be sent to:
