Teen Talk is an exciting new addition to programs provided through the Community Services department. Teen Talk offers support to youth both over the phone at (360) 397-2428 (CHAT), and through the Internet. Youth volunteers complete 32 hours of training prior to taking calls, which gives them information about many of the issues facing today’s young people.
Teen Talk came into creation as a result of information gathered by Clark County’s Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force. Youth who were interviewed stressed the importance of having someone in their peer group to talk to about difficult issues. Volunteers with the program represent a diverse array of backgrounds, personalities and outlooks on the world. They are eager to assist their peers in getting through the difficulties of adolescence.
Kris Henriksen is the Coordinator for the Teen Talk Program and would be delighted to tell you more about this valuable resource for youth. She may be reached at (360) 397-2130 ext. 5199.
