Vancouver, Wash. – The physical and cognitive limitations that occur as we age can make driving a car unsafe or even impossible. But driving can be the only way to remain independent for many older adults who live in areas with limited transportation options.

Learn more about senior drivers and what resources and information are available in our community to help seniors drive safer at the next meeting of the Commission on Aging, 4:30 pm Tuesday, July 17.

The meeting will be in the sixth-floor Hearing Room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. It is open to the public.

Tom Wilson, a certified instructor with AARP Driver Safety, will discuss the characteristics of older drivers and how you can tell when it is time to no longer drive. He also will provide information on how to help seniors stay in the driver’s seat longer.

The July 17 discussion is the fourth meeting this year focused on transportation, especially for people 60 and older. Transportation allows residents of all ages and abilities to connect with others and maintain independence and is the hallmark of a livable community.  For a schedule of topics, go to www.clark.wa.gov/community-planning/2018-transportation-speaker-series
