Newspaper error prompts change in growth plan hearing schedule

Body
A public hearing previously scheduled to begin Sept. 1 will instead begin Sept. 3 and continue Sept. 10 to consider environmental impacts of proposed changes to the local Comprehensive Growth Management Plan. Anyone interested is encouraged to review the draft environmental impact statement and comment to the Planning Commission and Board of County Councilors. They will hold a joint hearing Thursday, Sept. 3, and Thursday, Sept. 10, on the sixth floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. Both sessions start at 6 p.m. In addition, written comments will be accepted until 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. After that, planning commissioners and county councilors will hold separate deliberations to establish a “preferred alternative” to update the plan adopted in 2007. Go to www.clark.wa.gov/planning/2016update/alternatives.html to view the environmental report online. It examines alternatives ranging from little or no change in planning and zoning to substantial changes in rural, agricultural and forestry zoning districts. The hearing was postponed to meet legal notice requirements specified in state law. County staff prepared a notice necessary for a hearing on Sept. 1. The notice did not appear in the Aug. 12 edition of The Reflector newspaper as planned and required, due to a production error immediately before publication. The Reflector apologized for the inconvenience in a letter from Christine Fossett, president and chief operating officer of Lafromboise Communications, Inc. The company publishes The Reflector and other community newspapers in Washington.
