Vancouver, Wash. – A volunteer advisory commission tasked with evaluating options and providing recommendations to replace the county jail yesterday decided to move forward with the assumption the jail will need 850 to 880 beds by 2050.

“This is a significant step toward ensuring Clark County has sufficient beds for future needs while being mindful of the cost to our community,” said Chair Craig Pridemore.

The Clark County Correction Facility Advisory Commission, CFAC, heard a subcommittee presentation on the projected bed need for a replacement jail. Number of beds in is one of many design and capacity features needed in a replacement jail.

CFAC also discussed four possible options for locating jail services in Clark County. All four options would be at the current main jail location on 13th Street and at the current Jail Work Center location on Lower River Road. Each option has different combinations of services at each site. They decided to explore costs for two options focused on the 13th Street location.

CFAC’s next meeting is at 3 pm Tuesday, May 14, at the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

CFAC has 24 members representing law and justice, community services, social services, business, neighborhoods, cities and labor. The commission held its first meeting in April 2018 and is expected to make a recommendation to the county council in June or July of this year.
