Candidate filing period to be held May 16-20

Vancouver, WA – The official candidate filing period for 2016 is rapidly approaching. The in-person period to file a declaration of candidacy begins at 8 a.m. Monday, May 16, and runs through 5 p.m. Friday, May 20. Candidates wishing to file for office in person can do so at the Clark County Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St. Filing fees may be paid by cash or check only when filing in person.

Candidates for elective office also have the option of filing a declaration of candidacy online. The online candidate filing system will be available at clark.wa.gov/elections from 9 a.m. Monday, May 16, through 4 p.m. Friday, May 20.

To file online, a citizen must have a valid email address and be registered to vote in the jurisdiction for which they are filing. Candidates will be able to pay any filing fee online using a valid Visa or MasterCard. 

The offices open for candidate filings this year include the office of U.S. Senator; U.S. Representative, 3rd Congressional District; all state offices; state senator and state representative positions for the 14th, 17th, 18th, 20th and 49th legislative districts; three Supreme Court justice positions; a Court of Appeals justice position; all 10 Superior Court judge positions; county offices of councilor districts No. 3 and No. 4; Clark Public Utilities District commissioner for district 2 position; and, 252 Republican precinct committee officer positions and 252 Democratic precinct committee officer positions.

This year’s primary will be held on Aug. 2. The general election will be held on Nov. 8, 2016.
