Diking and drainage district candidate filing period

Vancouver, Wash. – Beginning at 8 am on Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, Clark County Elections Department began taking candidate filings for the positions of commissioner for Drainage District No. 2, Drainage Improvement District No. 5 and Diking Improvement District No. 14. These commissioner positions are six year terms. The filing period will end at 5 pm on Friday, Dec. 13.

Along with the three openings, Clark County Elections was just notified of a vacancy in Diking Improvement District No. 14. This vacant commissioner position is for an unexpired two year term.

The official date of the election for these commissioner positions will be Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020.  If only one candidate files for any of these three positions, that candidate will be deemed elected and an election will not be held for that office.

In order to be eligible to file or to vote within each of these districts, a person must have been a registered voter within the State of Washington for at least 30 days and also must have owned property within the district for at least 30 days.  Any corporation or partnership owning property in one of these districts has the right to appoint a qualified voter of the district as their representative to vote for a candidate for office within the district.
