Vancouver, Wash. ‒ Fabric art works created by Sharon Svec will be on exhibit in the Anstine Sixth Floor Gallery through August.

A reception honoring the Vancouver artist will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 23, in the gallery on the sixth floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. The free event is sponsored by the Clark County Arts Commission. Opus Music will provide entertainment.

Svec creates her art by exposing images onto fabric using photosensitive dyes. She uses images of dancers – often a single female performer – and nature, and the images become the negatives used to expose the dye-treated fabric. Svec applies layers of paint and additional dye to complete the pieces. The dancers seem to perform as the fabrics sway gently to the movement of air around them.

The Anstine Sixth Floor Gallery is named in honor of Rebecca Anstine, a local artist and founding curator of the public exhibit space that bears her name. She served on the Clark County Arts Commission board. She died in February 2016.

The gallery is open to the public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except weekends and holidays.
