The Giving Garden
UPDATE June 29, 2018: Our plants are growing like crazy! Below (left), we harvested our first crop of thyme and prepared it for use in cooking.
UPDATE August 24, 2018: Below (right), we're getting to the end of our first growing season, and we still have strawberries! The cherry and pear tomatoes are so sweet - yum!
The Juvenile Court has planted an urban garden! Cedar boxes were constructed and filled with garden soil in anticipation of the big planting day. Aluminum gutters were hung on cyclone fencing to create a habitat for strawberry plants. CCJC staff donated vegetable starts, seed packets, and flower starts to fit the plan created by the WSU Master Gardener. A BBQ lunch was enjoyed by the staff and kids prior to the inaugural planting. Youth and staff will work the garden in hopes of donating harvest and learning about healthy diets.
