Effective April 1, the Parks and Lands division of Clark County Public Works is temporarily closing Bratton Canyon park. The closure will allow for comprehensive assessment activities. The information from the assessment will be used to develop a long-range plan for the property. The park will be reopened as soon as possible once the assessment is complete and the park is determined safe for public use. 

UPDATE: The earlier version of this release did not include location information for those wishing to attend the open house in person at Minnehaha Elementary School. That information has been added.  

The Parks and Lands division of Clark County Public Works is updating the master plan for Hazel Dell Community Park. Residents are invited to an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 to learn more. 

The Clark County Public Works volunteer program is calling for adult volunteers to help with a beach cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday, March 16 at Blurock Landing. Blurock Landing, located at 8001 NW Lower River Road in Vancouver, is a park at the confluence of the Vancouver Lake flushing channel and the Columbia River. Snacks and supplies will be provided. 

County Council hearing scheduled for April 2

All comments are welcomed and encouraged regarding the draft Clark County 2024 Annual Action Plan and substantial amendments to the Annual Action Plans for program years (PY) 2022 and 2023. Annual Action Plans detail the programs and activities that will be carried out for funding received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. 

The Clark County Commission on Aging continues the “Prepare in a Year” discussion series. This month’s topic is all about creating your own emergency kit. Experts from CRESA, Clark County’s regional emergency services agency, will discuss the topic and answer questions from the audience. 

The meeting will be at 4:30 pm Wednesday, March 20.

The Clark County Climate Project Community Advisory Group will meet at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, March 13. 

Clark County’s Green Business program invites the community to learn about green business marketing strategies from Riparian Media at a free Morning Blend event this month. Morning Blend is an opportunity for business owners, managers and employees to network, discuss green business efforts in the workplace, and learn about solutions for reducing the commercial impact on the environment. 

Stormwater Partners of Southwest Washington is proud to announce the fourth annual Students for Clean Water Student Video Contest. Middle and high school students throughout Clark County are invited to create fun and impactful short videos to inspire stewardship of our community’s water resources. Stormwater Partners is a coalition of local agencies and organizations, including Clark County and the cities of Battle Ground, Camas, La Center, Ridgefield, Vancouver and Washougal.

Beginning at 10 am Wednesday, March 13, elections officials will perform a hand count of approximately 600 ballots randomly selected as part of a manual comparison against machine results. 

For this comparison, approximately 300 from each political party will be counted by hand, to check the accuracy of the ballot tabulation equipment. The selected ballots will be counted in the total returns on Election Day.

The Clark County Council is seeking applicants to fill four positions on a fifteen-person board that advises the county on matters related to the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad.

Applicants with railroad management, regulations, operations, or other railroad-related experience desired. Also desirable is experience in economic development, land use issues, transloading or other business experience using freight-rail service, transportation logistics, and work with municipalities and rail impacted areas.
