• Community Planning

The Clark County Commission on Aging is focusing this year on emergency preparedness, particularly for people 50 and older. Emergency preparedness is crucial to maintaining quality of life and particularly important for older adults, who are among those most impacted by major health events or hazards. Given this, the commission is dedicating eight monthly meetings to increase awareness about what emergency preparedness is, and what it can look like on a personal, neighborhood, community, and regional level.

The Clark County Council is seeking applicants for two volunteer positions on the Solid Waste Advisory Commission. 

Applications from Clark County residents are being accepted for the following positions:


• Elections

At 10 am on Friday, Jan. 12, the Clark County Elections Office will conduct logic and accuracy tests of the programming of the accessible voting units and the programming that is used to tabulate ballots for the Feb. 13 Special Election.

The tests will be held at the Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St. These tests are required under Washington state law before every election. Members of the news media, candidates, jurisdictions with measures on the ballot and the public are invited to attend these tests.


• Public Works

The Klineline Pond area of Salmon Creek Regional Park, including the park entrance and parking lot, will be closed on Jan. 5. The closure will begin at 7 a.m. and last through at least noon. During the closure, there will be no access to/from the Klineline Pond area of the park or the parking lot at the Klineline Pond entrance. The closure is needed to safely move project supplies from the parking lot to the pond area, over Salmon Creek, via crane.


• Public Health

The Clark County Board of Health is accepting applications for a Public Health Advisory Council position held by a dentist practicing in Clark County. The term for the volunteer position begins as soon as it’s filled and ends Sept. 30, 2026.


• Community Services

The Clark County Youth Commission is seeking nominations to recognize 300 local youth that demonstrate personal growth and community contribution in one of thirteen categories of achievement. Youth will be recognized in categories such as arts, career development, citizenship, courage, diversifier, education, empathy, environmental stewardship, family life, inspiration, leadership, personal achievement, and sportsmanship.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County has received many questions and concerns regarding alleged violations of environmental laws by Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad (PVJR). PVJR operates the railroad, commonly known as the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad, pursuant to a lease with the county.

Clark County residents who are among the millions of people buying natural Christmas trees this holiday season can utilize local recycling options to give their trees purpose long after the holidays are over.  

Recycled Christmas trees are chipped into mulch – a natural and low-cost product that can help conserve water and beautify garden beds and landscaping. 


• Community Services

Clark County Community Services has scheduled four public forums in January 2024 to discuss and get feedback on its low-income community needs survey conducted earlier this year. This feedback will be included in the final Community Needs Assessment report and will help determine spending decisions countywide.

These events are open to all. Registration is encouraged. Interpretation services will be provided upon request. Light refreshments will be available during in-person forums.
