First Steps Maternity Support Services (MSS) and Infant Case Management (ICM)
First Steps MSS and ICM programs are offered to our Nurse-Family Partnership clientele or through other participating agencies in the community, such as Sea Mar and Vancouver School District-Teen Parent Program, as a preventative health and educational service to women on Medicaid and living in Clark County. This is a Washington State Apple Health enhancement service designed to help pregnant and postpartum women have a healthy pregnancy and infants a healthy first year.
First Steps MSS services can begin any time during their prenatal, delivery or postpartum period up to 60 days following the end of pregnancy. ICM services can start after MSS ends (when baby is about 3 months old) and can continue up to the last day of the month when baby turns one.
Services may be provided in the provider's office, the family's home, or an alternative location and may include:
- Referrals to resources in community
- Brief Counseling
Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team that includes:
- Behavioral Health Specialists
- Community Health Workers
