Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s Master Composter/Recycler program will host a Backyard Composting Workshop at 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. The free event will be at the Center for Agriculture, Science and Environmental Education (CASEE) at 11104 N.E. 149th Street, Building B, Brush Prairie.

Participants will receive information and resources on what composting is, why it is beneficial and how to build and maintain a successful backyard compost pile.

The training is offered by Clark County Public Health’s Master Composter/Recycler program, which educates the community about easy ways to reduce waste, increase recycling and rethink the impact on natural resources.

“Our Master Composter/Recycler volunteers make these workshops possible by donating their time and expertise to the community,” said Pete DuBois, who leads the Master Composter/Recycler Program.

To become a Master Composter/Recycler, participants receive 30 hours of training during a 10-week-long class. In exchange, they commit to 30 hours of volunteer activities once they have graduated.

Trained Master Composter/Recyclers teach workshops, attend community events, operate composting demonstration sites and share their knowledge with neighbors and community groups.
