Community gardens offer residents without personal garden space a place to grow their own fruits and vegetables.
Healthy Eating
Eating healthy food in today’s fast-paced world can be a challenge.
Complete Eats
The Complete Eats program is back! This program helps families on tight budgets afford more healthy fruits and vegetables. If you use SNAP, you can earn a $5 coupon when you purchase $10 worth of qualifying fruits and veggies at any Safeway in Washington, except Seattle (they have their own program).
Eligible shoppers must use their SNAP card plus their Safeway Club card to receive this coupon. All fresh fruits and vegetables plus canned or frozen fruits and vegetables with no added fats, sugars or salts qualify. Learn more at Washington State Department of Health.
Here are some tools to help you make smart food choices at home and on the go.
Community gardens and farmers markets are wonderful resources for fresh, local nutritious food as well as enabling residents to be involved with their community and meet new people. Other benefits of community gardening include reducing stress, beautify their neighborhoods, engages youth, make new friends and provides an opportunity to exercise.
