Vancouver, WA  ̶  Clark County made history Tuesday when Presiding Superior Court Judge James E. Rulli swore in two additional members of the Board of County Councilors, bringing the legislative body to five people.

Former County Commissioner Marc Boldt was sworn in as chair, a countywide position, and Julie Olson was sworn in to represent District 2. They officially assume their duties Friday, Jan. 1, 2016.

“This is going to be an honor,” Councilor-elect Boldt said. “We have a lot of work to do. We’re here to serve the needy and protect all citizens. That’s exactly what we will do.”

Councilor-elect Olson said she has met many county employees since she won the   Nov. 3 general election and is “ready to embark on an exciting adventure.”

“This is a wonderful community we live in, and I’m honored to be part of local government,” she said.

The two took oaths in front of a standing-room-only crowd in the Public Service Center.

Boundaries of the three councilor districts will change Friday to accommodate a fourth district. Although the chair is elected at large, the other four council members are elected at the district level.

Also, councilor district numbers will change Jan. 1. Then, Councilor Jeanne E. Stewart will represent District 1; Councilor David Madore will represent District 3; and, Councilor Tom Mielke will represent District 4.

A five-member county council and related changes are part of the county’s first home rule charter approved by voters in November 2014.
