Vancouver, WA – Clark County is seeking applicants to fill three seats on the five-person Clark County Noxious Weed Control Board.

The weed board advises the Board of County Councilors about managing noxious weeds. State law requires the eradication of Class A noxious weeds, which are non-native species with limited distribution in Washington. For other noxious weeds, the state defers to local officials to determine control and containment requirements.

Appointments to the board are for four-year terms, which begin Jan. 1, 2017. Members are not paid salaries but are compensated for expenses.

Clark County is divided into five geographic weed districts. The county is seeking farmers or others involved in agriculture from the following three districts:

  • District No. 2: East Vancouver, Camas, Washougal and surrounding areas
  • District No. 3: Battle Ground, Brush Prairie, Hockinson and surrounding areas
  • District No. 4: La Center and areas north of the East Fork Lewis River and west of Fargher Lake

A map showing approximate district boundaries is posted on the county’s website.

To apply, please call (360) 397-6140 or write to Clark County Vegetation Management, Attn: Weed Board Coordinator, 1300 Franklin St., P.O. Box 9810, Vancouver 98666-9810.

Applications must be submitted to the weed board office by 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23. The appointment process will follow state law.

The weed board will meet Dec. 5 to review applications and make recommendations to the county council. It is scheduled to appoint three members Dec. 13.
