Felida Neighborhood Association organizes event at park on Northwest 26th Avenue

Vancouver, WA – One of Clark County’s two new parks will officially open Saturday as the Felida Neighborhood Association cuts a ceremonial ribbon at Sorenson Neighborhood Park.

The event begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the park along Northwest 26th Avenue at Northwest 109th Street. The dedication will go on rain or shine, so attendees should dress for the weather and bring umbrellas, if necessary.

The Felida Neighborhood Association has organized the event and selected five speakers:

  • Julie Olson, Clark County councilor
  • Bill Bjerke, Clark County parks manager
  • Barbara Anderson, co-chair of the Clark County Parks Advisory Board
  • Milada Allen, president of the Felida Neighborhood Association
  • A.J. Sallee, co-chair of the neighborhood association’s Sorenson Park Committee

The ceremony is scheduled for 30 minutes. A reception will follow at The Backstairs at Felida Village on Northwest 36th Avenue at Northwest 119th Street.

Robertson and Olson Construction Inc. of Camas built Sorenson and Tower Crest Neighborhood Park. Money for construction came from park impact fees, which are collected on residential construction to help pay for additional parks to serve a growing population.

Clark County has built 30 parks since voters created the Greater Clark Parks District in 2005. The district encompasses the urban unincorporated area outside Vancouver.

Clark County needs to build four more neighborhood parks ‒ Kelley Meadows, Kozy Kamp, Otto Brown and Salmon Creek Community Club ‒ and two community parks ‒ Curtin Creek and Pleasant Valley ‒ to finish the Greater Clark Parks District projects.
