Candidate filing period and online candidate filing begins May 6

Interested in running for public office? The filing period for citizens to become candidates for elective office is rapidly approaching. The offices open for candidate filings this year include U.S. Senator, Congressional District 3 U.S. Representative, State offices, State Legislative District Senators and Representatives, State Supreme Court Justices, State Court of Appeals Judge, 11 Superior Court Judges, County Council Districts 3 and 4 Councilors, Public Utility District Commissioner District 1, and 355 Democratic and 355 Republican precinct committee officers. 

Beginning this year, candidates for Superior Court and all legislative district positions must file with the Office of Secretary of State.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to file their declaration online. Please visit VoteWA.gov beginning at 8 am, Monday, May 6, through 5 pm Friday, May 10, 2024. 

In order to file online, a citizen must have a valid email address and be registered to vote in the jurisdiction for which they are filing. Candidates will also be able to pay the filing fee online using a valid Visa or Mastercard credit card.

The in-person filing period will begin at 8 am, Monday, May 6 through 5 pm, Friday, May 10, 2024. Candidates wishing to file for office in person can do so at the Clark County Elections Department, 1408 Franklin St. Candidates for Superior Court and legislative districts may file in person at the Secretary of State’s office in the Legislative Building, 416 Sid Snyder Ave. SW in Olympia. Credit cards are not accepted for payment when filing in person.

For additional information about filing for elective office and the 2024 Primary and General elections, a copy of the "Candidate Guide and Local Voters’ Pamphlet Specifications" can be found on the Clark County Elections Department website at clark.wa.gov/elections/candidates.

This year’s Primary will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The General election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
