The Clark County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol enforces state and local boating laws and regulations, investigates boating accidents, conducts water-based search and rescue operations, and identifies or removes navigational hazards. The unit also responds to complaints and concerns regarding vessel operations within the county.
In addition, marine deputies collaborate closely with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to provide boating safety education and promote safe practices for boaters throughout the local metropolitan area.
CCSO Marine Patrol encourages all boaters to follow four simple rules for safe boating:
- Take a Boating Safety Course - Educated boaters are safer boaters. The Marine Unit partners with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and U.S. Sail & Power Squadrons to offer an introductory boating class on the fourth Saturday of each month. To register, call 564-397-2106 or email ccsomarine@clark.wa.gov.
- Always wear a Life Jacket While Boating - Life jackets save lives — it’s that simple. Most drowning victims could have survived had they been wearing a life jacket. Make it a habit to Wear It every time you’re on the water. Learn more about life jackets.
- Pledge to Not Drink and Boat - Alcohol significantly increases the risk of accidents on the water. Pledge to stay sober while boating and keep yourself and others safe. More information about boating under the influence.
- Get a Free Vessel Safety Check - Ensure you and your boat are prepared and properly equipped before the boating season begins. Request a vessel safety check online or contact us at ccsomarine@clark.wa.gov.
