Vancouver, Wash. – With the likely reopening of public pools and a return to outdoor recreation this summer, Public Health is reminding people to take caution in and around the water. Warm weather may be on the horizon, but area lakes and rivers are still cold, and water may be moving quickly. By taking a few simple steps everyone can stay safe while enjoying the water throughout the summer.

• Community Services

The Clark County Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board (DDAB) is seeking community input for its five-year comprehensive plan.

The DDAB is currently prioritizing services for inclusion in the updated five-year comprehensive plan. The DDAB values community members opinions, experiences and history.


• County Manager

Clark County is issuing the following statement regarding the jury’s verdict on the court case involving former county employees Don Benton, Susan Rice and Christopher Clifford.

Clark County thanks the Court and jury for their work and service in this case. The county recognizes and appreciates the time members of the jury spent giving their careful consideration of the facts in this case. County leadership will be carefully reviewing the verdict and evaluating the county’s options moving forward.


• Elections

Every election, the Clark County Auditor’s Office provides a voters’ guide with information about candidates and ballot measures for voters to make an informed decision when voting. The voters’ guide includes statements by and photographs of candidates for elective offices as well as local ballot measures with supporting and opposing statements written by citizens.


• Clark County Council

The Clark County Council is seeking applicants for two seats on the Clark County Law and Justice Council.  

The Law and Justice Council is established by law to help coordinate activities of the local criminal justice and develop a community corrections plan for local and state corrections services in the county.

The Clark County Council has reorganized and reenergized the Clark County Law and Justice Council.

The Clark County Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 9:30 am Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

• Elections

 With the resignation of Camas Mayor Barry McDonnell on Monday, May 11, this position will be added to the list of offices open for filing beginning Monday, May 17 through Friday, May 21, 2021.

The online period to file a declaration of candidacy will be available at clark.wa.gov/elections beginning at 9 am, Monday, May 17 through 4 pm Friday, May 21, 2021.

• Community Planning

The Commission on Aging will hear about the impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has had on individuals living with a serious illness and those caring for them. The meeting will include guest experts and a discussion about what our community can do to better meet the needs of individuals who are very ill, and the caregivers and clinicians supporting them.

The discussion will take place during the Commission on Aging’s monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19. Meetings are currently in an online format.

• County Manager

Clark County is seeking qualified applicants to fill an open seat on District Court. The open seat is due to the retirement of Judge John P. Hagensen on June 30, 2021.

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must be a registered voter in Clark County and a lawyer admitted to practice law in the state of Washington.
