For nearly three years, I have served as successor to Bill Barron, our long-time county administrator who retired in late 2013. My title and duties changed when a voter-approved home rule charter took effect in 2015.
Under the charter, I stepped into the acting county manager role. I held that title until June 2016, when the Board of County Councilors approved a contract that named me Clark County’s first full-fledged county manager.
My title changed, but my mission has not.
In early 2016, the new five-member Board of County Councilors, Assessor, Auditor, Clerk, presiding District Court judge, Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff, Treasurer and I signed a Vision, Mission and Strategic Actions statement we drafted over several months. The statement says, in part:
The mission of Clark County government is:
We enhance the quality of life in our diverse community by providing services with integrity, openness and accountability.
Our vision for Clark County is a community with:
Safe streets, neighborhoods and structures
Healthy natural and built environments
Prosperity and well-being for a diverse population
Engaged, civil and informed citizens
Inclusion and acceptance of all people
A population and environment prepared for current and future job opportunities.
Collaboration throughout the community is necessary to achieve this vision.
We have seen many challenges over the past few years and achieved great things. Many of those were reflected in my first annual report published last fall. Printed copies are available in the Office of Public Information and Outreach.
The report talked about achievements, but focused on those who made them possible. I am honored to lead an experienced, intelligent workforce with education, training and a reputation for premier service. Exciting changes are in the offing that will bring us even closer to the highest levels of teamwork and performance.
And I am honored to serve this caring, dedicated community. I want to forge new partnerships and strengthen existing friendships across a wide variety of people, agencies and organizations as we carry out our mission and work toward our vision.
Thank you for your continuing commitment to our community.
