• Sheriff

Clark County is offering sign-on bonuses for deputies hired in the Corrections Branch of the Sheriff’s Office.

Individuals who have current experience working as a Corrections officer hired as a Clark County Corrections deputy will received a $25,000 sign-on bonus as described below.


• Public Works

A portion of Northeast Davis Road will be closed for construction beginning Monday, June 20. Regular drivers along Northeast Davis Road approximately 0.6 miles east of Ward Road, just south of Hockinson will see road closure message signs beginning Monday, June 13. Drivers will need to take a detour route during the closure. A detour route map can be found on the project website.

The closure is expected to be in place until no later than mid-November 2022. Closure start and end dates are weather dependent.


• Public Works

Clark County Public Works began construction of an 18-hole disc golf course, pedestrian bridge and a shelter at Hockinson Meadows Community Park in May. Public Works expects to begin significant field work at the park later this month pending receipt of building materials.


• Public Health

Clark County Public Health has issued a swim beach warning at Vancouver Lake after routine testing showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria. E. coli bacteria can cause serious gastrointestinal illness when water is accidentally swallowed.

Test results for one of five water samples collected at Vancouver Lake on Tuesday showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria. The other samples had bacteria levels within acceptable water quality standards.


• Community Development

The county manager is seeking applicants to fill one pending vacancy on the Clark County Development and Engineering Advisory Board, DEAB. The position is for commercial or industrial development representative and is open to professionals associated with development of commercial or industrial lands.

The term for the position is three years beginning July 1, 2022, and ending June 31, 2025.

Stormwater Partners is proud to announce the winning entries for its second annual Students for Clean Water Video Contest. Clark County middle and high school students submitted more than 60 videos for the contest. A $500 first place and $100 honorable-mention prize has been awarded for each of the following videos in five categories:


• Public Works

Clark County will begin construction on Kozy Kamp Neighborhood Park on Monday, June 6. The park is located at 17410 Northeast 29th Avenue, south of Northeast 179th Street in the Fairgrounds Neighborhood.

The completed Kozy Kamp Neighborhood Park will include a playground, multi-purpose sport court, a paved and accessible loop trail, open lawn play area, and picnic tables and benches. Additionally, improvements will be made at the park boundary with Northeast 29th Avenue.


• County

County Manager Kathleen Otto is seeking applicants interested in volunteering for the newly created ethics commission. The original application deadline was 5 pm Friday, May 27. Because the county has received only one application for the three-member board, Otto is extending the application deadline to 5 pm Friday, June 24.


• County

Clark County residents can learn about the health of their local streams in the most recent stream health report released by Clark County Public Works. For the first time, the report is completely digital and includes interactive maps along with explanations of key water quality parameters and indices.


• County

Clark County Animal Protection and Control on Friday, May 20 issued a search warrant in conjunction with the Vancouver Police Department at a residence in Vancouver for possible animal cruelty. Nineteen animals to include dogs, cats, small animals and reptiles were removed from the apartment. The owners were arrested and charged with first- and second-degree animal cruelty. All animals were taken to the Humane Society for Southwest Washington for veterinary exams and medical attention.
