The Parks and Lands division of Clark County Public Works is beginning a project to improve tree health and address hazardous trees at Pacific Community Park. Arborists have identified trees that need pruning, and a limited number of trees that require removal. Dead limbs and hazardous double trunks will be removed from 58 trees, and five trees will be removed.

The Parks and Lands division of Clark County Public Works invites the community to celebrate the completion of an inclusive playground at Felida Community Park. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the playground at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28. Councilor Michelle Belkot will provide remarks and cut the ceremonial ribbon. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Parks and Lands division of Clark County Public Works is seeking the community’s input on a draft update to the Legacy Lands Guidance Manual. The comment period is open Monday, Sept. 18 through Wednesday, Oct. 18. After public comment and review by the Parks Advisory Board, the plan will be considered by the Clark County Council for approval. A council work session about the Legacy Lands program and the updated guidance manual is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 27.

The Parks and Lands division of Clark County Public Works is seeking the community’s input about a five-acre addition to the historic Hazel Dell Community Park.


• Public Works

Construction on a water quality project will begin Sept. 3 on Northeast Highway 99 between Northeast 68th Street and Northeast 78th Street. The project includes installation of stormwater treatment basins and vaults to improve water quality in Cougar Creek. The project also includes downstream improvements to the stormwater collection and treatment system.

Clark County Public Works, Parks and Lands division, is convening an advisory group comprised of local residents to review the cleanup actions at Camp Bonneville. The first meeting of the Camp Bonneville Advisory Group (CAG) is Aug. 30.

Clark County Public Works Parks and Lands is seeking public comment on the Parks Capital Improvement Plan. The proposed six-year plan includes preventative maintenance projects, major maintenance projects and recreation enhancements at existing parks, and development of new parks. Projects in the plan address needs identified in the 2022 Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan, which was created with input from the community and adopted by the Clark County Council in April 2022.

New projects and programs in the proposed Parks Capital Improvement Plan include:


• Public Works

Venersborg Bridge (#217) will be closed beginning Monday, Sept. 11, closing Northeast Risto Road to through traffic. The closure is scheduled to last no more than 20 working days (through Oct. 6). Exact closure start and end dates are weather dependent and subject to change. The closure will allow for work to strengthen the bridge and ultimately remove the existing weight restriction.

Rock Creek Bridge (#96) will be closed beginning Monday, Aug. 28, closing Northeast 152nd Avenue to through traffic. Northeast 279th Street will also be closed to through traffic east from Northeast 182nd Avenue. The closure will allow work to strengthen the bridge and ultimately remove the existing weight restriction. The closure is scheduled to last no more than 20 working days (through Sept. 17). Exact closure start and end dates are weather dependent and subject to change.

UPDATE 8/28: due to extreme heat, the inspection of the bridge at the Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area will be rescheduled. The Aug. 28 inspections of the Highway 99 and I-5 railroad bridges will continue as scheduled. We will post here when we have confirmed a new inspection date for the rescheduled inspection. Several bridges and a tunnel along the county's Chelatchie Prairie Railroad will be inspected the weeks of Aug. 14 and 28. Some of the inspections will result in traffic control on roads under the bridges.
