The Commission on Aging will hold a joint meeting with the Clark County Council on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m. At the meeting the Commission will present its annual report which highlights accomplishments from 2023.

The Commission on Aging dedicated 2023 to an update of the Aging Readiness Plan followed by a focus on community engagement. The Clark County Aging Readiness Plan assesses the county's readiness to serve as a home for a growing number of older residents. The plan was initially approved in 2012, with an update adopted in September 2023. It includes strategies to improve the community’s capacity to support its growing older population and ultimately benefit all ages.

Following adoption of the plan update, the commission focused the remainder of the year on community engagement for people 60 and older by hosting a three-part speaker series with the Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington (AAADSW). The series explored ways the commission can help support an engaged and supportive community where individuals, businesses, and community groups understand best practices for engaging with older adults and where there is community-wide awareness of available aging resources. 

The Feb. 21 meeting will provide the opportunity for commissioners to share with the council and public what they learned. The commission will also outline its 2024 work program, which will focus on emergency preparedness.

Commission on Aging meetings are at 4:30 pm on the third Wednesday of each month. Meetings are currently held in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual participation options.
