Judge Lancaster Columbia House

Body

This elaborate southern colonial style home was built with the finest materials available. All the turned wood – the bannisters and newel posts - was shipped from around the Cape Horn by clipper ship. The home is furnished with original pieces brought across country by ox team in 1849.

Thomas Lancaster, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Oregon hosted Chief Umtuch and members of his tribe on the home’s grand two-story porch. Ulysses S. Grant, Civil War General and president was a guest at this home when touring Fort Vancouver.

  • Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
