Vancouver, WA – The public will have an opportunity to comment on a long-range vision for parks, trails and open space during the regular meeting of the Board of County Councilors at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The meeting will include a public hearing to consider adoption of the Clark County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan at the Public Service Center, sixth-floor hearing room, 1300 Franklin St.

Washington's Growth Management Act requires a plan that meets state standards to seek state funding for parks. Written comments may be submitted before the hearing to: laurie.lebowsky@clark.wa.gov.

The plan envisions major investments over the next six years to develop parks, enhance existing parks and trails and purchase land for future projects. The plan was crafted based on significant community outreach, including:

  • Three open houses in different parts of the county.
  • An online survey that netted almost 1,500 responses over a seven-week period.
  • Four meetings with stakeholder groups: neighborhood leaders, sports groups, trail groups and local park and recreation managers.

The county's Parks Advisory Board and Planning Commission both recommended approval of the plan featured on the county website at www.clark.wa.gov/parks.
