Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s Legacy Lands’ program will host an interactive learning event in September at Vancouver Lake Regional Park to commemorate the program’s 30th anniversary.

The final event in the 30th anniversary celebration series will offer opportunities to learn about wildlife and connect with the community.

The date and time for the upcoming event is:

• 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 – Be part of an EcoBlitz to identify all species that call Vancouver Lake Regional Park home at this event, coordinated by the National Park Service. Join a team with a lead expert to search for birds, mammals, insects, frogs and plants in the park. Some teams will use the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership canoes to look for wildlife. All ages are welcome at this family friendly event. Register at www.inaturalist.org/projects/vancouver-lake-eco-blitz.

“We are excited to engage residents to be stewards of the natural areas in our community,” said Don Benton, Environmental Services director. “They can help be our eyes and ears for the properties and support the maintenance provided by staff.”

The Department of Environmental Services works with public and private partners to purchase and manage Legacy Lands. These include environmentally significant areas with scenic views, fish and wildlife habitat, and access to rivers and forests.

The Conservation Futures property tax levy provides county funding for the Legacy Lands program. Since 1985, the program has protected more than 50 properties encompassing more than 5,000 acres.
