Vancouver, WA – With spring in the air, it is a great time to head outdoors. Clark County has many recreational sites, including scenic properties and habitat conservation areas within the Legacy Lands program. To encourage visits, Clark County will feature areas open to the public while celebrating the program’s 30th anniversary this year. Two events will showcase Legacy Lands this month: • Salmon Creek Greenway, 1112 N.E. 117th St.: More than three miles of paved and nature trails provide excellent wildlife and bird watching opportunities. Access is available via Salmon Creek Regional Park/Klineline Pond or the western trailhead on Northwest 36th Avenue one-quarter mile south of Northwest Bliss Road. April 11 – Join Vancouver Audubon Society for a bird hike at 8 a.m. Meet at the parking lot by the Salmon Creek Sports Association Complex for a one-hour walk on paved trails. April 18 – Clark Public Utilities’ StreamTeam will coordinate a series of Earth Day events, including tree plantings and garlic mustard removal. Suggestions for self-guided walks include: •Lucia and Moulton Falls Regional Parks, 21803 and 27781 N.E. Lucia Falls Road: Enjoy stunning views of the East Fork of the Lewis River, waterfalls and a scenic bridge, along with great wildlife watching. Both parks feature relatively flat paved and gravel trails. “This is a great way to remind residents that their dollars have been put to good use to protect natural areas while creating more recreational opportunities,” said Don Benton, Environmental Services director. “We hope everyone will enjoy the properties and celebrate this anniversary with the community.” Environmental Services works with public and private partners to purchase and manage environmentally significant lands with scenic views, access to rivers and forests and important habitat for fish and wildlife. County funding comes from the Conservation Futures property tax levy.
