Road construction to slow traffic on Padden Parkway

Work will improve safety by adding acceleration lanes at Northeast 94th Avenue

Vancouver, WA – Drivers may experience some delays on Padden Parkway as work to improve a section of Northeast 94th Avenue enters a new phase.

The project includes building acceleration lanes on Padden Parkway to improve safety by giving vehicles entering from Northeast 94th Avenue room to speed up before merging. Deceleration lanes also will be added or improved on Padden Parkway to provide room for vehicles to slow down before turning right onto Northeast 94th Avenue.

Tapani Inc., a Battle Ground-based contractor working for Clark County, started last fall improving Northeast 94th Avenue, from Padden Parkway to Northeast 99th Street.

Tapani will begin working on Padden Parkway next week. Initial work includes temporarily restriping a short section of the parkway, shifting the center barrier and installing a temporary traffic signal.

Drivers can expect some delays from periodic lane closures and other work, but Clark County will work collaboratively with the contractor to minimize disruption, especially during morning and evening rush hour. Once the initial traffic adjustment is completed, there should be few delays to traffic on Padden Parkway.

About 25,000 vehicles use this section of Padden Parkway on weekdays. Drivers, as always, should use extra caution when passing through a construction zone.

The overall project involves upgrading a 0.75-mile section of Northeast 94th Avenue north of Padden Parkway by adding a center turn lane and building drainage improvements. A bicycle lane and sidewalk will be built on the west side of road, and a shared pedestrian-cyclist path will be added to the east side.

Work also includes replacing the traffic signal at Northeast 94th Avenue and Padden Parkway and improving a short section of Northeast 94th Avenue south of the parkway.
